Nordic Skiing at the Cabin Creek and Hyak Sno-Park (Near Snoqualmie Pass) (2-26-2011)
An excellent day for XC skiing at the Cabin
Creek and Hyak Sno-Park near the Snoqualmie Pass. (17-18 miles with 200-300 ft
elev gain)
Today might be the last day for Nordic skiing for
this winter unless the winter prolongs a few more weeks. There were heavy snows
past Tue and Wed in Cascades areas (not much in Kitsap County
though) and the temperature was in high 10s to low 20s for the last few days.
All those conditions made perfect for Nordic skiing today. Paul, Greg, Tom, and
I got together and skied a quite a bit. Paul and Greg skate skied. Tom and I
did classic skiing. We spent just over 2 hours at the Cabin Creek. I probably
skied about 7-8 miles. Then, we drove down to the Hyak Sno-Park and skied about
2.5 hours. I skied about 10 miles there. It was first for me skiing at the Hyak
Sno-Park. It’s called the John Wayne trail. It is almost flat, so it would be
perfect for practicing skate skiing or Nordic ski motion. I got really tired
today but felt really good. It’s probably because I chopped 1 cord of Alder
woods for fire woods yesterday.
